Karen Sosnoski is a freelance writer based in Arlington, VA. She writes about resilience lost and found, focussing on insights gained through extreme encounters with art, sports, disability, illness, human limitations, and love. As a middle-aged mother of a teenager in recovery and newly sober herself, Karen is less interested in what we lose when we “give up” substances than in what we gain, namely freedom, joy, excitement, authenticity and connection. Widely published in diverse mediums, Karen is currently working on a memoir, Dispatches from My Parallel Wilderness (fighting the war against shame the year my daughter lived at wilderness school).
